A service provided by radar air traffic control (ATC) facilities. Pilots receiving this service are advised of any radar target observed on the radar display that may be in such a proximity to the position of their aircraft or its intended route of flight that it warrants their attention. This service is not intended to relieve the pilot of his or her responsibility for continual vigilance to see and advise other aircraft. The aim of this service is to assist and advise the pilot that a particular radar target’s position and track warrant attention. The traffic information will include the following on a target that may constitute traffic for an aircraft that is radar identified:
i. The azimuth from the aircraft in terms of the twelve-hour clock, or when a rapidly maneuvering civil test or military aircraft prevents accurate issuance of the traffic and the direction from the aircraft’s position in terms of the eight cardinal compass points (N, NE, E, SE, S, SW, W, NW). This method is terminated at the pilot’s request.
ii. The distance from the aircraft in nautical miles.
iii. The direction in which the target is proceeding.
iv. The type of aircraft and altitude, if known.
If the target is not radar-identified, the controller indicates the distance and the direction with respect to a fix; the direction in which the target is proceeding; and the type of aircraft and altitude, if known.
